Customizable heros taking the place of henchmen sounds fantastic.
You level them up, set their armor and builds, give them instructions (hopefully it'll be role/task-based instructions), and even bring them with you into HvH.
I think this is just the shot in the arm PvE needs.
(and in addition, serves as yet another gateway into PvP for PvE players)

That sounds like the stuff I've always dreamed of for henchies!!!
Hero vs Hero sounds cool, too. And the number of quests/missions is promising. I'm still curious about the elite PvE, tho.
thanks anet ^_^ <-- I don't usually do this, but that announcement deserved it!!!

Actually it seems like we will get sidekickS / manslaveS. It seems like you can take more than one under your wing!
It kind of has a RTS sound to it. You have to control and manage your own little army!

300 skills new skills, 150 for new characters and another 150 for all other characters which mean new stuff for Assassin and Rits. As for the NPC, thats total going to rule.
|
300 skills (with a handful of extra duplicate skills that weren't in the initial 300) was the amount factions added.
150 for the new professions, 75/75 split, and then 25 a piece for the core professions.
The only way Ritualists and Assassins are getting anything is if they decrease the additional core profession skills. 150 doesn't quite make a round number to split 8 ways. 18 a piece with 6 leftover, or 15 for core professions, 30 for factions professions, or 20 for core professions and 15 for factions professions.
Regardless of what they choose, I don't think we can expect to see nearly as many skills, if any at all, for the Ritualist and Assassin as we did with Factions. (Edit: I don't mean another 75, in case that came out wrong. I mean, I don't expect Ritualists and Assassins to get as many skills as Core professions did with the release of factions during the release of Nightfall. That is, once again, if they get any at all.)
And sadly, if it's like the Factions release, we won't get to see a single one until the actual release of the game, barring the Paragon and Dervish
They'll sit there and taunt us from the skill select screen as locked icons! Laughing at us!
kidding <_<
Customizable hench is something people have been begging for since... well, forever. I think it'll be an excellent addition to the game.
The quests are likely so-so, but I'll toast to new missions.

For those who don't see the math here:
75 Dervish
75 Paragon
25 6 core professions (10 new, 10 elites, 5 copies)
300
In other words, exactly what Factions was in the way of skills.

They don't have to stick with the same skill numbers as Factions, ya know...
70 Dervish
70 Paragon
20 x 8 current professions
300

• Customizable Heroes (party NPCs) that level up with the player, follow player instructions in combat, and use armor, weapons, and skills of the player’s choice.
ZOMG!! Awesome!! No more crappy pick-up groups!! No more aggro-happy henchmen!!
• A new game type, Hero vs. Hero Battles will allow a single player to participate in PvP with hero NPCs.
Not sure, might be more fun than alliance battles
• Two new professions: The Dervish, a scythe-wielding holy warrior and The Paragon, the guardian angels of the Elonian people.
They do look interesting
• 4 new guild halls.
Yay
• 300 new skills.
Uh oh, 300/8 = 37.5, 300/6 = 50. No new skills for A and Rt? Even if dervish and paragon come with 75 skills each, that's 150 new skills left for everyone else; 150/8 = 18.75, 150/6 = 25. Looks like they're adding skills for only the 6 core professions, not all 8 that are currently available.
Bummer.
• 250 Quests, 55 explorable areas, 20 new Story Missions, and three new Challenge Missions.
Tons of quests and 55 explorable areas? 20 missions instead of 13? Where do I sign?
w00t indeed...

Some very nice and interesting changes coming for Chapter 3 obviously. Hopefully, people will stop the ridiculous complaining about ANET neglecting PVE.

I don't see why people think Rit's and Sin's will be getting any new skills.
Nightfall and Factions don't have any tie's. Sin's and Rit's are unique to the factions chapter, as Dervish and Paragon will be unique to Nightfall, and as every 2 new class's will be unique to their chapter.
While it may seem unfair for certain class's to keep getting new skills (the core 6) just consider how many skills are never used anyway..
aside from that, I can't wait, can't wait to equip my war with a scythe

At last, commandable henchies! I wonder if this means an end to me screaming "don't aggro everything and try to fight, heal me bitch" at the monitor.

I wonder if we'll have to pay to upgrade Henchmans armour/weapons, and if they're 'dynamic/unique' to us, like your pet, they level up with you and you get like level 3 henchies to start and then by using them you get higher level henchies.
